Our Social Value work is incredibly varied. While it often involves being hands on – taking on apprentices or providing volunteers to help with a school eco project for example – it can also come in the form of donations, affording valuable resources for the residents and communities where we work.
In the past few weeks, Breyer Roofing has worked with MatchMyProject to identify funding needs in the Croydon area as a way of supporting those living in and around Hyde Housing properties. As a result, we’ve made a donation to Bromley & Croydon Women’s Aid to cover the cost of oyster cards for domestic abuse victims to access the support they need. We’ve also provided funds for Baltimore House, one of Hyde Housing’s sheltered accommodation properties, to purchase a new bingo machine. The entertainment it provides makes a real difference to elderly residents who get hours of fun from it and an opportunity to socially interact with others, which helps to lift spirits and overcome feelings of loneliness.
Finally, Breyer Roofing has donated sensory equipment to charity Step Out Mentoring, who provide a safe space and support for young people suffering from isolation. A representative from Step Out commented:
“Providing a physical space where young people who may have autism, ADHD or other neuro sensitivities means adapting the space to cater for all. We often do this through different lighting effects, which can engage the senses, and have a positive impact on mood and emotions. However, this kind of equipment is expensive and, as a small charity, it’s something we can’t afford. So, we are really grateful to Breyer Roofing for helping us to purchase it and helping to make a real difference to the young people at our project.”
Vicky Marchant, Managing Surveyor for Breyer Roofing, said of the donations:
“Although our primary focus is to deliver excellent roofing services, we are equally keen to provide the residents and communities where we work with extra support where we can. It is a real privilege to be able to support such a wide range of community needs through our Social Value work and we will continue to look for opportunities to do so in the future.”
