Our Breyer team in Kingston has taken another important social value step by employing on a new local recruit this week. Following our successful Place of Change careers event in December, which was run by Breyer Foundation in partnership with the Construction Skills Consortium (CSC) partners, local resident Aishwarya Murthy has secured the role of Customer Advisor at our Kingston Office.
One of Breyer’s key social value commitments is to recruit local talent to work on our contracts. So, we run a number of initiatives throughout the year to support this, including careers and development events.
Breyer’s Head of Social Value and Communities, Liz Obertelli has pioneered Breyer’s partnership with CSC with this in mind, ensuring DWP and their local JobCentres are identifying and directing talent towards opportunities with Breyer. The CSC also provides individuals with access to funding, training and wider job opportunities across the construction sector.
With the support of our Head of Partnerships Dean van Woerkom, our Social Value Manager, Jamie Clancy-Toomey organised an Insight Day for individuals that showed interest in working for Breyer at our initial Place of Change event. This played a significant part in our local recruitment drive.
Jamie explained:
“It’s really important to Breyer that we provide local residents with job opportunities wherever possible. During the Place of Change event, I discovered that Aishwarya was struggling to get a role within the construction environment following her time at university. The follow-up Insight Day provided Aishwarya with further insight into the construction industry, as well as interview and CV technique training. It was also an opportunity for her to find out about job opportunities with Breyer. This led to Aishwarya securing an interview for the Customer Advisor role. I’m delighted that she was the successful candidate!”
Aishwarya added:
“Attending the Place of Change Kingston event was a game changing moment for me and I’m so excited to have secured the Customer Advisor role. It means a lot to me as it’s not just a job, but an opportunity to grow both professionally and personally. It’s a chance to use my skills in customer service, operations, team management and problem-solving, as well as to make a real difference and contribute to a company that values its people and community.”
“The Insight Day allowed me to dive deeper into the role and really understand how it could align with my skills and aspirations. I’m grateful for the support I’ve received and I’m excited to be starting this new chapter at the Kingston office.”
